LexGrade, an open standard for grading legal motions
The desk has been quiet since 2017. Here is what I have been working on.
LexGrade is a project I started. It is an open standard for grading legal motions, written for practicing lawyers. Version 1.0 has eight principles and forty-five graded criteria on a hundred-point scale, each one independently citable. The criteria come from motion practice. One reads, in full,
LGS 7.8. No trial-level decision is cited as binding authority.
It costs minus five points per instance.
Grading starts with an ethics gate. A fabricated citation is an automatic minus twenty before anything else is scored.
Alongside the standard is a technique register with thirty-nine named advocacy techniques.
Both documents are published under CC-BY-SA 4.0 and owned by no one. Anyone may use, share, or adapt them with attribution, including inside commercial drafting tools, as long as adaptations carry the same license. The source lives on GitHub.
